The general consensus is that if you really want to do Singapore in style, you’ll ultimately have to splash the cash. With a range of high-end hotels, restaurants and excursions to hand, and a reputation as one of the most expensive luxury cities to live in, in the world, it’s perhaps no surprise that so many travellers include Singapore on their bucket lists.
We’ve broken down the basics you’ll need to make your dream Singapore trip a reality – we’ve taken a look at the contenders and rounded up some of the most luxurious places to visit, from state-of-the-art hotels to the very best eateries.
Plan your trip to get value for money
Ultimately, very few people would book a long-haul trip to Singapore at a moment’s notice, and not just because of the risks of last-minute flights from a pricing standpoint.
For assurance, if you want to fly to Singapore for a luxury escape, it’s probably best that you book your flights well in advance. You’ll want to eye up first-class services, of course, but also compare and contrast different deals on the market before settling on your final choice. When it comes to getting value for money, try and be as flexible as you can about dates, times and your choice of airport, and you can easily cut costs.
Also, consider the perks of different airlines and airports – for example, Singapore Airlines has an exclusive range of suite cabins, which are essentially private rooms on board for either individuals or couples. With access to your own bathroom amenities and even a TV for entertainment options, it’s an ideal way to start your luxury experience of Singapore before you even land. Ideally, you should aim to book these services as far in advance as possible, due to limited availability.
High-end hotels in Singapore
You don’t have to look far in Singapore to find decadent, over-the-top hotels. Whatever your taste and style there’s something to suit all tastes, but we’ve picked out three of our favourites.
Marina Bay Sands
When you think of luxury hotels in Singapore then chances are that the Marina Bay Sands will be the one that first springs to mind. Marina Bay Sands has become something of a Singapore landmark – an iconic hotel and resort complex, recognizable by its stunning rooftop infinity pool, often called ‘the surfboard’ because it sits on top of three sky-high towers. Marina Bay Sands is also home to multiple celebrity chef restaurants, a shopping mall and breathtaking views of the city skyline.
The Fullerton Hotel
If you prefer something with a bit of history as opposed to contemporary, sleek lines, then you might prefer the Fullerton Hotel. Housed in a historic neoclassical building near the Singapore River, the Fullerton Hotel manages to mix classic elegance and modern luxury, proving that you don’t have to sacrifice history and charm to still enjoy luxury. The Fullerton is loved for its beautiful waterfront location and a gorgeous rooftop bar with panoramic views of the city.
The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore
One of the most important features of any luxury hotel is the service and on this the Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore, well and truly delivers. The hotel delivers everything you’d expect – a choice of high-end restaurants, a well-equipped spa and luxurious rooms, but it has something that the other hotels in Singapore don’t – a world-class art collection. Guests can enjoy works by prominent artists like Frank Stella, Andy Warhol and Dale Chihuly and there are guided art tours available if you’re interested in exploring the collection.
The Best Places to Eat
If you’re a foodie, then you’re going to love Singapore. The good news is that, like in a lot of big Asian cities, there are so many acclaimed eateries to try. While you’re spoilt for choice in the city, there are a few stand-out eateries that are worth going over budget for.
Odette
Odette, located in the National Gallery Singapore, is a Michelin three-star restaurant headed up by Chef Julien Royer. As of 2023, there are only 138 restaurants in the whole world with three Michelin stars, so expect stunning food and equally stunning prices. Odette is renowned for its modern French cuisine with a focus on seasonal and artisanal ingredients. The restaurant itself is beautiful – minimalist chic with lots of creams, soft pinks and elegant furnishings.
Les Amis
Les Amis is another Michelin three-star restaurant, also influenced by Parisian haute cuisine, but the vibe at Les Amis is very different from Odette. The decor is darker and more classic elegance – think chandeliers and dark wood rather than the white and pink modern style of Odette. Wine buffs will love Les Amis and its extensive wine collection.
Burnt Ends
Burnt Ends offers something a bit different from the upscale French food of our previous two choices, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less tasty or well-respected. Burnt Ends specializes in modern Australian barbecue and comes complete with a busy open kitchen and wood-fired grill. Burnt Ends doesn’t follow the traditional restaurant layout either but instead has opted for a communal dining concept, giving the restaurant a casual yet upscale atmosphere.
